Absolutely ridiculous hospital. An average wait time is apparently 8+ hours. People left sitting there for so long being told 'Oh you'll be next', 'Oh the night staff are coming on, they'll deal with you first'. It's not good enough. Understandably there are emergencies but these hospitals would have less people in the waiting room if they managed it properly. If it wasn't the local hospital I'd avoid it. Disgraceful place.

The waiting area is a little poor but everything else was excellent. I couldn't have been treated better. All credit to the cardiology staff, they are all excellent and very professional.

We arrived at A&E at 10 pm. The person that called us back went to put an IV in my 9-year-old daughter but was not wearing gloves which got me by surprise?! The cleanliness of the cubicle we were in was disgusting. The sheet looked like it wasn't changed after the patient before us and when my daughter fell asleep, the carer pulled up the bed rail that was covered in blood from the person who was in that bed before us!! That is so unhygienic and I was disgusted!!

My wife had a missed miscarriage and a D&C was performed today. She had already been scanned and treated by staff in the EPU who were absolutely fantastic. Dr Mohammed is simply a wonderful man and we could not say enough positive things about the man. All the nurses and staff in the Gyne ward were just lovely - so helpful and kind. They could not have done more despite being ran off their feet. It was a first pregnancy and was hard and upsetting. However, the service of excellence we received and the kindness shown made it so much easier. From the bottom of our hearts thank you most sincerely.

I was pregnant and unsure of my dates. I was initially seen by Dr Mohammed and then the staff in the Early Pregnancy Unit. Unfortunately the pregnancy did not progress and resulted in a missed miscarriage. We were so devastated and it was a first pregnancy so there was anxiety and the fear of the unknown. The staff in the EPU were second to none, they were so kind and caring. Nurse Elaine McGrath was just so wonderful to us. Dr Mohammed is an utter gentleman with a lovely and gentle manner, I can not praise him enough. He was so lovely and I trusted him and felt confident and at ease with him. I had my D&C today and each and every member of staff were so lovely to me and my husband. The nurses on the Gyne ward were angels. And again Dr Mohammed put us so at ease. Thank you all so very much for making a difficult situation so much easier. You are all not half recognised for all you do. I am so very grateful.

I found my entire time from A&E through admittal, inpatient care, discharge, outpatient follow up and even patient accounts department when home in the U.K. to be outstanding. The teams involved in my care at each level were amazing, taking the time to make me feel comfortable and at ease while treating my condition which is rare and generally unheard of. All staff educated themselves on my disease which I was impressed with, and I am hugely grateful for such a high level of care and kindness. I was impressed by the happy and caring staff at every point, even over the phone. Huge thank you to Mayo General.

I attended A&E with my daughter as a result of an accident where she clearly had broken her finger. While this was in no way a critical emergency, we were made to wait over five hours and had only seen a triage nurse. At 10pm I made the decision to leave as my daughter was exhausted after a day at school and spending the whole evening sitting in a waiting room and the receptionist could not give any indication as to what time we would be seen or where she was on the waiting list. To say the service in the A&E was appalling is an understatement and I really hope I never have to attend with an actual acute emergency.

Really unimpressed with the A&E of Mayo General. I went in with suspected fracture, and I'm still unsure of what my diagnosis is. The doctor at the time couldn't read my X-ray properly and I was told to go home and take pain killers! I never heard anything back and had to call myself yesterday. Disgrace and so unprofessional. I'm still in agony and have just received my €100 bill, they were sure not to delay with that! I can't believe I was let go with no diagnosis or advice on what to do now!!

I was admitted for a relatively routine procedure with Mr Waldron and his team. There were complications, but the team's expertise was outstanding. They performed a dangerous procedure, and still kept me alive. I was then passed to ICU. Totally unbelievable, the care I received was brilliant. I was in a coma for a number of days, and the staff allowed my wife to stay with me for as long as she wanted, all the time I was on the danger list. Once out of the coma, the care I received was again brilliant, I couldn't ask for better. The dedication of the staff in ICU cannot be faulted. You are truly angels, and I know that without your input, I would not have survived. I will be eternally grateful to Mr Waldron and his team, and the staff in ICU for my life. Thank you seems such a small thing for what you have given me.

Although the staff levels on D ward were often low, and the staff were stretched to the limit, the level of care received was excellent. If you needed a nurse, one was there within minutes. Cannot be faulted.

I attend the oncology ward twice yearly. The staff are very professional, kind, caring and informative. The ward is extremely clean. I'm glad I opted to have my treatment at Mayo General.

Better treatment than I would have received in UK. Obviously hospitals in Ireland (public) could do with a large cash injection but I was well treated by doctors, nurses, radiography and porter.

I was on a very busy ward and from observation, the staff were run off their feet. I observed a healthcare assistant who was very frustrated and angry on a number of occasions with another worker and I'm sure patients may have noticed this too. Not a nice thing to witness in a care setting. That worker needs to take a leaf from the book of the students in training

On holiday in August 2016 one of our community had a severe stroke. The unit not only took excellent care of the patient - also of the two others who found themselves in another country. We were all very well looked after, and encouraged by the staff and other patients who took a real interest in our community member, her care, her spiritual needs and her disability were a first priority. The patient, 86, is now on the road to recovery. Thank you to all.

I believe this hospital doesn't deserve university status and ought to be shut down. The hallways are always filled with patients on beds, as are the supply rooms and plastering rooms. You sit waiting for hours in your bed if you manage to actually get one, and this is on top of waiting up to 10 hours to be seen in the first place. I feel the doctors do not care about you, the nurses are the only saving grace. The hospital needs a complete overhaul. The nurses though are angels, but they are overworked. As are the maintenance staff who had no problems comforting a scared, crying young woman being ignored by her doctors.

The A&E is absolutely appalling. I was left waiting 9.5 hours before I was seen, then left for another 1.5 hour waiting for a nurse to do two injections! The doctors were lovely and explained everything well, but the A&E staff were extremely rude and kept telling us that I would be the next one seen! I was told that three times! And the nurses were completely rude and no help at all absolutely appalling! One nurse questioned the doctors advice and said there was no way she was giving me the injection even though the doctor had advised it! Her words were 'we don't give this injection out willy nilly, I need to look into this before i issue it'.

I'm a carer for my husband and anytime I go up to the hospital with him they really make us feel so low. My husband's speech is bad and he had a sensory stroke so he is like a child and he has to have his leg hanging down while in a stretcher but their policy is to have the two bars up at the side of the stretcher. I ask for one of the bars to be taken down as that's the only bit of comfort he has but they don't. They make me feel my husband is too much bother as there has to be someone with him all the time. I know they can't be with him as they're very busy so it's myself that's with him all the time. I can say I never found them nice in A&E, they don't take into account that I'm a carer 24-7 and to be honest the last place I want to be is in A&E with my husband. He was in awful pain.

The A&E waiting room is not child friendly for the following reasons: 1. not enough space between seats for buggy to pass without hitting someone's leg. 2. should be a play area/kids books. I know that if a child is sick they may not be able to play but siblings can. 3. not easy to hear if you are sitting furthest away from A&E door

I was with my aunt when she went to this hospital. We met one nurse who was rude, ignorant and was rough with elderly patients. She could be heard shouting at old people. Where is hospital management? Are they blind?

An appalling place to bring a toddler. No changing facilities in the A&E and I was afraid to leave the area in case we were called. No toys or seating area for kids. A sick, vomiting, disabled women had to sit and endure my 23-month-old screaming and crying in pain for over an hour. It was obvious that the unit is way understaffed. The staff were great but were limited in their capabilities due to the poor staffing levels. I got there at 16:30 with a 23-month-old with a sore leg and nowhere to put him down so spent the first four hours literally holding him until we were moved to a corridor where someone gave me a chair. It's appalling that children can't be separated from the main waiting area especially at 01:00 am when they're exhausted. The hospital is not child friendly at all.

I had two brilliant nurses but the rest were shocking. One refused to let me use the hospital's breastpumps to express milk for my baby for 48hrs so I was forced to feed formula, the next gave me terrible advice which resulted me being in agony with engorged breasts and on my last day there was a horrible nurse who between treating patients poorly, also barged in on me showering just before I was discharged to try and insist I needed to talk to social services as I suffered the loss of a baby 10 years previous. The maternity ward needs a serious overhaul.

I have stayed here often and could not praise the nurses enough. They were under such pressure but they made me so relaxed before my operation. There's always the bad stories hitting the papers but not the good. I was very happy from start to finish.

Found all nurses that cared for me in the three days I was in there to be very friendly and pleasant, always had a smile on their face and chatted to me which would have been hard to keep up considering the long hours they put in. They should be paid a hell of a lot more since they are the ones that looked after me 24 hours. I only had two little problems. I know the hospital has to be cleaned but having cleaners go around dusting the frames off the curtains when you are in bed is a bit disgusting since dust was falling and the other thing is that I was told that morning I could go home could have left right there and then but it was after five when I got out. I didn't like waiting around. If it wasn't for the helpful and friendly nurses I'd have hated staying in there. They are the heart of the hospital.
