The doctor managed to miss three fractures in my x-ray. Gave me a walking boot, which he shoved my foot into, as I couldn't move it much myself and lucky I had my own crutches to get about or he was making me walk on it. Gave me an appointment to review in two weeks time. At that appointment, they were very good but still only found one fracture. I was referred to another hospital where they did a CT scan and saw three fractures. I then had to get surgery to fix one of the fractures, which probably would have been ok if a cast was put on straight away, rather than two weeks later. I had to wait almost a week to get surgery, so three weeks total before anything was done with my fractures!! Absolutely ridiculous and is costing me a lot of money between having to take time off work and the stay in hospital and the prescription!

The respiratory department seems to be run very well. The nurses are so friendly and helpful. My procedure went as well as it possibly could.

The toilet for the public patients to use in A&E is so scandalously filthy, something that hasn't changed even in the C19 pandemic. It isn't difficult to clean a toilet.

No information given after waiting for a doctor for three hours, patient had to leave eventually because of an appointment, no staff to talk to. Told later that treatment tests will have to be performed again. No respect for other people's time and concerns.

Absolute disgrace of an A&E. No respect for patients' privacy, everyone knows your business as it is shouted all over the unit. Left sitting for hours while the staff cruise about. Total lack of hygiene, the place is filthy. All patients being put into a tiny room inside A&E doors no matter what their problem. E.g. person with serious infection on leg (we knew as it had been shouted about ) put into the tiny waiting room with everyone!!! Lack of respect for patients or empathy. Nurses were extremely ignorant and dismissive and left children and old people waiting for hours in waiting room. This A&E needs to be totally overhauled.

This hospital is a total disgrace especially where care of the older citizen is concerned. Its level of hygiene standards is appalling. The attitude of staff with very few exceptions is rude, dismissive and down right disrespectful. If they were to work in one of the major university hospitals they might learn the correct way to treat patients.

I was appalled at the lack of BASIC nursing care on the ward. Lack of assistance with activities of daily living for the patient. No one supervises meal times. The nurses do not appear to advocate for their patients. The answer to everything is there is an infection. Test results are never reported back to the patient. Miscommunication seems to be common between staff as they contradict each other. I sent a written of complaint about similar issues in 2012, but NOTHING has changed in 2019.

We were impressed by the timely care my mum got. We stayed with mum most of the time as she has dementia. I do have one complaint. I felt the catering staff left and lifted the food much too quickly, not really giving people time to eat. Maybe more staff helping people eat would be good.

Following an accident involving my then-five year old many years ago, I cannot fault Cavan Hospital. His heart stopped on admission and staff moved fast and saved his life. He has just got married now and I am so glad Cavan Hospital was on the ball that day!

Was given local anaesthetic and wasn't checked to see if area was numb before procedure began. Doctor proceeded and only stopped when he seen I was in tremendous pain. I was given more anaesthetic and doctor continued again without checking. I'm so disappointed in the care I was given. Nurse and all other staff were great.

Check in delay. MRI delay. Sedation didn't work. Consultant on leave. Nurse unhelpful. Doctor pleasant. No given appointment for MRI. Told back on waiting list after over seven hours in hospital.

I'm a young woman with a terminal illness. I encountered, among other things, a junior doctor who couldn't understand English or read a CT. I found the attitude of staff in general appalling. I dared to complain and was discharged that morning but later readmitted to a different hospital and looked after, my illness and care was taken care of there.

I was in two top hospitals in London during my time and I must say that neither was a patch on Cavan. Well done, excellent care.

I had my second baby in Cavan General a few months ago. Like my first experience a few years ago, the care I received was 110%. As a high risk patient, I was exceptionally well looked after. All of the staff on Maternity Ward, midwives, doctors, ladies who made the beds etc... were very nice.

Was referred by doctor on call to come into A&E straight away, he even wanted to send an ambulance for me, as my chest infection was getting worse even though I was already on two antibiotics (I am also asthmatic and that was my 4th chest infection this year). I could barely speak and walk due to being so out of breath, I also had tightness in my chest and throat. The doctor who saw me took bloods and X-ray and ended up giving me steroids, which my GP has forbidden me from taking due to my acute renal failure history. I told this to the doctor but he had none of it. I also had to take out the cannula myself as no one was really bothered about it. Next time I will go to another hospital.

While the care she received was good (i.e. had numerous test etc...) my mother wasn't given a diagnosis. She was only too delighted to get home but I was surprised she didn't receive an outpatient appointment to see how she was getting on.

I have received top rate care from the very first visit 2 1/2 years ago. What kind, caring, skillful nurses. A horrible time made bearable by wonderful ladies who never fail to make each patient feel important.

I self harmed, which is an on going thing. When I arrived at Cavan General Hospital I had to wait. I was see by a nurse first then brought down to a different waiting area. I wasn't seen by a doctor to get stitches for 3 hours and I wasn't even offered food. I told the A & E Doctor I wasn't feeling well. I felt light headed but he wasn't going to numb me up to get stitches in place.

I've been in and out of A&E the past month with excrutiating pain. First visit I was misdiagnosed with an infection and sent home with antibiotics and painkillers. Ended up back in A&E a week and a half later still in pain, was told I must still have an infection when I did not. Was sent home with more antibiotics which my GP then told me not to take as I was taking too many. Was back in A&E after a week with the same pain with a letter from my doctor stating I needed a scan to determine why I was in pain. Was left waiting in A&E for six hours in excruciating pain with no pain relief, was then told I was too late to have a scan because I'd been left waiting too long. I was then poked and prodded by four different doctors only to be told I needed a scan which is what I went down there for in the first place. Now I have to wait another four weeks for my appointment for a scan when they know I'm in severe pain that leaves me unable to even get out of bed. If I had a choice to go to a different hospital I would as my pain is getting worse and they don't seem to care.

When visiting my friend in Surgical 3 Ward, on the 24th of August between 6:30 and 7:30 I was horrified to see how my friend was spoken to by the "lady" serving the night cuppa. When speaking to the patient she asked did she want tea, my friend was a bit hesitant in replying. But was rudely told by the staff member in question to SPEAK UP, and the lady in question shouted at my friend. SPEAK UP OR YOU WON'T BE HEARD was shouted again. Not much care there! Or humanity!

I attended this hospital recently with a sore leg. I was seen and assessed quickly by a nurse in a tiny room - it was really small, I don't know how she could assess a patient properly in there. I was seen by a very pleasant doctor, who organised an x-ray for me and a porter brought me there in a wheelchair - he was good craic. Around a half hour later the doctor spoke with me and told me my x-ray was clear and I was experiencing muscular pain. They gave me a prescription for painkillers and gave me a leaflet about my type of injury. The nurse put on some tubigrip and took the time to go through the leaflet with me. While I was there an obviously drunk man became abusive towards a nurse, I've read about this sort of behaviour in the papers but to see it in real life was another thing altogether. The way he spoke to this nurse was terrible! I don't think he left any swear word out! All in all the staff in A&E were great - keep up the good work.

My procedure was cancelled with three hours notice. A secretary phoned my emergency contact, they wouldn't even contact me about my own appointment. I went into the hospital but they refused to let me speak with the consultant or tell me who cancelled my appointment. I have since heard nothing two months later and still no apology or explanation. Would never go back here ever again. It's actually a complete joke.

Brilliant staff, very hardworking, nothing was to much trouble. My son had surgery and everyone he met put him at ease. He had a tough time and they looked after him brilliantly. Could not thank all the staff in the children's department enough.

My father has been a patient of Cavan Hospital since September after being diagnosed with a serious condition. He had an operation and within five days was moved to respite in Monaghan Hospital. He became unwell the following Monday and was rushed to Cavan again, where he lay in a store room in A&E. Eventually they put in a catheter and bag to take away urine as they thought it was a kidney infection. He was sent back that evening to respite in Monaghan, but within half an hour of being back, he was rolling in the bed in pain and running a high temp so into ambulance again and back to Cavan. He was left lying on a trolley most of night. He had a stomach infection. On the Thursday, respite refused to take him back as his bloods were still showing a high level of infection so Cavan discharged him to home! In December, he presented himself for treatment for this condition but had developed jaundice so was admitted. For three days he was shoved from pillar to post with regard to which consultant he was under until finally they said it was a case for Dublin. However Dublin required a CT scan. He had already had a CT scan on admittance on the Monday but for some reason this wouldn't suffice. He didn't receive 2nd CT scan much later as god forbid you got sick while it was christmas time!! He waited till the following Monday to be transferred to The Mater where the care he received was outstanding, everyone of the staff were so nice compared to Cavan where we couldn't even ring to inquire about his health without the nurses or sister upsetting my father saying we were giving out or complaining to higher management, (all lies I might add). My father was transferred back to Cavan today still a very unwell and weak man, he had his procedures done in the Mater and all was good there but had developed a chest infection and was dehydrated. He was assured there was a bed in Cavan for him but yet when he was brought down by ambulance he was put in a day room in a chair and left there for four hours with only a nurse to come in twice, once to check his blood pressure and once with a cup of tea. A doctor who hadn't even looked at his chart came in and made him go through all his history of his ailments. He was left in the chair even tho he hadn't been out of his hospital bed to even walk in days. In the end when family complained they were told he had come too early! He was then discharged and sent home this evening with two cannulas one in either arm! This hospital is a joke, the staff are rude and ignorant to patients and family, the doctors are rude arrogant and half don't speak English! As for cleanliness - over Christmas my father's sheets were so dirty they could have walked off the beds. I have complained to the administrator and director of nursing and I won't stop till I get some outcome out of this. To treat a man with a fatal disease in such a manner is downright inexcusable!
