Felt like going back in time in terms of the building, and also the staff because their treatment of me was exceptional. I couldn't have had better treatment by everybody, having experienced the NHS in the UK and emergency treatment in the US, this hospital wins hand down…very impressed !!!

I feel blessed to have been treated by such a dedicated surgeon along with his professional team. The care and attention given to me by them was excellent. The Nurses in ICU. Loreto, Mags and some whose names I have forgotten, were so very caring. Nothing was too much for them. All the nurses on Level 2 Victoria, including the carers and catering staff. Wonderful Hospital, excellent surgeons, and a very nice atmosphere all round. Not a bad word to say about my stay of nearly three weeks.

I recently had a full hip replacement in the South Infirmary. My hip was damaged from steroid treatment to treat breast cancer. The care, compassion and treatment I received in this hospital was second to none. Should any further complications arise, which I hope they won't, I would insist on returning to the South Infirmary.

For such an old hospital it is so well run. Appointments run on time with very little waiting around. Staff are excellent and interested in their job.

I attended the ENT outpatients and frankly it's like something out of another era in Irish healthcare. The staff are lovely, but the physical building is old and badly maintained. I will definitely look at going somewhere else next time. I was only having a very minor procedure, but I would not be very comfortable getting anything invasive carried out in that hospital.

From my arrival at admissions until I left the hospital the whole horrifying experience of having to have an operation was handled with genuine warmth, care and professionalism. The staff do everything thay can to make you feel comfortable, relaxed and cared for. I have not one word of complaint or fault. If anyone finds themselves in the SIVUH Ophthalmology unit they are in the safest most capable hands. My surgeon was Dr Anthony Cullinane and he is a phenomenal doctor. I have been told by many that be is a world class surgeon but added to this he is open to questions and explains everything you need to know. He is a wonderfully reassuring presence.

Most definitely will not return there for anymore scans. They had no regard for my privacy and made me feel that I was wasting their time with my scan. Three weeks later had surgery, thank God my consultant could read the scan better than the radiologist.

Visited this hospital as I needed to have my tonsills out. Have to say my experience was positive. Received excellent care from the nursing staff, my pain was minimal and I'm recovering well all thanks to them! Medical staff couldn't have been better, both doctors and my consultant were excellent, thorough and explained the procedure really well. Very friendly hospital.

Even though the medical staff attending the oncology unit are professional, caring and carry out their duties above and beyond their status, I feel that the oncology unit has been left behind in regards to staffing levels, basic facilities (shortage of toilets), no lunches offered even though one could be there for up to seven hours. All depts in the hospital are important but I feel that the patients of the oncology unit are vulnerable, worried and apprehensive, they deserve the best possible care available whether private or public and the major reason they are not receiving this is due to staff shortages in the unit. I would suggest the CEO start rectifying this as soon as possible to prevent a cancer patient suffering needlessly.

I was there very recently and all I can say is that the staff, doctors nurses, and everyone else I encountered were just amazing. Very professional, friendly, kind and lovely people. Couldn't recommend the hospital or staff any higher.

We hear so much of poor care in hospitals and not enough about the excellent care we receive like in the Cork South Infirmary. Overall from the orthopaedic pre-assessment to the final discharge was just an experience to behold. It certainly made my hospital admission easier as I was in the the care of professional, caring and dedicated staff. They have the package down to a fine art for sure. I sincerely thank all involved.

I was very disappointed with my doctor. I have a history of a particular disease so know what to look out for. However to me, the doctor was very flippant with my concerns and proceeded to educate an intern who was present as to the necessity of being aware of 'hypersensitivity', was the word they used. I'm a registered nurse with an MSc in Palliative Care so I fully understood the 'medical lingo' and certainly did not feel treated as a human being. One should not talk about any human to another human and assume that the individual they are speaking about, who is lying in front of them, is deaf.

Had a routine operation. After operation, surgeon spent 25 seconds with me telling me not to work for six weeks and he was gone. He did a great job with the operation though. The nurses seemed pre- occupied with their mobile phones. There was at one point six of them sitting at the nurses station. I had to call them to let down safety rails on my bed so I could get up.

Only problem was the car park. Barrier wasn't working properly and no one there to sort it but was able to get street parking fine. Otherwise excellent in every way. Only regret I didn't ask to be sent to Cork sooner.

I was in this hospital in 2011 for surgery following cancer and again in 2012. On both ocassions I felt that although the staff were, in general, caring they did not have the expertise to deal with my post-op care. One day I received no mid-day meal as the housekeeping staff seemed to think I had been discharged. On the second occasion my patient notes were completed without actually monitoring my pulse, blood pressure etc..., that is the nurse just made up numbers and wrote them down!! Felt very insecure and vulnerable on both occasions.

Of all the hospitals i have had the misfortune to be in, this was definitely the most positive experience to date. I can't say enough about the theatre staff and the ward nurses. They were the best I have ever encountered. Wound care nurses brilliant. My consultant was the most humane/emphatic man I have ever met.

My bed was right next to the door and scanning system to open door inside my curtain so no chance for privacy or recuperation after op as hands and heads looking in all the time. Wheeled in wheelchair to operation area and queued behind another lady just outside the operating theatre .. Someone was in there screaming and roaring in pain for what seemed like forever, we were both terrified and i was fit to do a runner,. I was eventually put into the same operating theatre!! i was never so scared in my life.... an absolute disgrace!!

Don't know why the South Infirmary closed down-they had an a and e department. It was the nicest hospital in Cork and all staff had a lovely bedside manner. Typical of HSE to get rid of something that worked.

I was brought in after having a seizure and cut my left ear. nurse went away to get injection and ended up injecting my right ear instead of the left and then to be told "oops sorry bout that" and injected the correct ear second time round. Excellent job got 8 stitches & wouldnt recognise the scar

Every time we have to go to South Infirmary Hospital (a few time with child and a few times myself) the pre and post care is simply amazing! Doctors prepared to go that extra mile to help patients, thank you!

I felt that I was poked and prodded by a doctor I waited a long time for. They didn't even address me by name or look at me. In fact they never actually spoke or explained anything to me. I think that health care is no longer a profession of caring, it is now all about business and money. The problem now is that staff don't care and unfortunately and selfishly that translates to the patient, whom is often in too vulnerable a position to question it.

Great hospital experience. Lovely nurses especially the night nurse Caroline for whom nothing was a problem. The staff on the private ward are fantastic
