I was seen in the day ward after being earlier admitted through A&E. When I was eventually seen by the doctor he insisted on speaking to me like I was a child. He proceeded to tell me I was fine and refused to take my blood pressure saying it was high because I had 'white coat syndrome'. I have a particular condition so he put everything down to that without considering ruling anything else out. He eventually agreed to do an echo but still refused to take my blood pressure. I went home with a prescription for medication I didn't need for a condition which he insisted I must have as a result of my other condition. I rang my GP the following day who agreed to give me a blood pressure monitor for 24 hrs. I wore the monitor for the agreed time and it turns out I do indeed have hypertension. I'm now on a blood pressure tablet along with certain lifestyle changes. I will never agree to be seen by that doctor again. He was ignorant and rude.

Very poor A&E service with long wait times. Would rather not have to go there again.

I felt the doctor on call was very condescending and their manner was far from sympathetic when I explained I was a breastfeeding mother that needed to be at home with my little one for her night feed.

Tullamore is a very clean hospital and looks very well. All staff I had the pleasure of meeting were lovely and very professional at all times. The staff in all capacities do not receive enough thanks for the jobs they do.

The outpatients department at Tullamore hospital is an ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES. Granted that there can be delays during the day, but there is NO EXCUSE for delays of 1-2 hours, especially first thing in the morning when an appointment system is in place. This is not a one off – it has been a consistent problem across several visits and is symptomatic of an ongoing failure at management level. The waiting area is far too small for the volume of people attending. The hospital is relatively new so surely some consideration was factored in for a growth in demand during the planning stages. Clearly not! In addition, the waiting area is shabby (tatty, ripped posters stuck on walls and desks with scraps of Blu Tack) and some people cannot hear their names when they are finally called. One particular staff member was more interested in where people were standing rather than following up on why a number of patients in their care were still sitting there 1-2 hours after their scheduled appointment times. Nobody was there for the fun of it – some of the patients needed assistance from the people attending with them. This particular staff member didn’t like being challenged but somebody had to speak out and I am not one bit sorry that I did. Another dreadful experience at Tullamore and from conversations with others in the waiting area, “dreadful” seems to be the norm.

I was admitted to the surgical ward for an overnight stay following a procedure. A very efficient and professional service, starting at the admissions office and continuing on until discharge. I was very impressed and wish to compliment every staff member I met. Thank you one and all for making my hospital stay so very agreeable.

My experience with this hospital has been excellent. My father-in-law has been an inpatient here for three weeks and the care from the Emergency Department to Medical Two has been fantastic. We as a family are so grateful to everyone for the outstanding care. Well done to everyone and thank you.

My daughter had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy there last week. The care she received was second to none. From porters to cleaning staff to surgeons, doctors and nurses. In particular on the children's ward where my daughter was Aisling, Jacintha and Colleen and Colette were all fantastic with her. They were great with my seven-year-old, explained everything before and after the op and made her and me feel very at ease. Nothing was too much trouble for them. My only down point was on the way home when I went to pay for my parking I was told to go to the security office with my ticket as I had been there over night. When I went I asked how or what do I do with my ticket as I didn't know if it could be validated or whatever, the rude staff member told me 'off to the Paystation you go'. I think that staff member might benefit from learning a few lessons in customer service and politeness from the other staff members. Other than that I would highly recommend Tullamore Hospital

I felt some catering staff didn't provide the attention needed. Twice we were ignored for tea for our mother and left waiting only for one staff member that made sure we were ok when she was on duty. Maybe have a chat with staff about patients that look sleepy but are not, and need to be asked for tea. Other then that, the staff on all levels were very good.

One staff member I dealt with was aggressive, confrontational and rude. Not what I needed post surgery. Made me extremely uncomfortable and uneasy where I just wanted to get out despite not being fit.

Easily, and without doubt, the worst run, most inefficient, ineffective hospital I have ever had to go to bar none!!! We, plus about 15 others, were left sitting in A&E for six straight hours without as much as a single word from ANYONE of what was going on. All the while, no one was called in to be treated for ANYTHING!!! If this is the best they can do the country would be best served by closing this hospital IMMEDIATELY and diverting resources it consumes to a hospital that at least makes an effort to provide healthcare! An absolute disgrace and a worthless excuse which I wouldn't dignify it by even referring or calling it a hospital!! Close the place and do us all a favour!!!!

Excellent, friendly and professional staff from outpatients telephone answering to security. Made it a pleasure to visit the consultant. Two hours from reception, nurses, doctor, nine injections, bloods and x-ray. Lost my parking ticket, yet the security office provided me with a 1 euro ticket and when I said I was there for two hours, he wished me a Happy New Year! Faultless. Well done staff.

I would really recommend this hospital for children. They looked after my son so well. All staff are very experienced and very helpful. Everything was discussed and explained at every stage of surgery. I will strongly recommend to everyone. Very child friendly hospital to any parent.

The staff in Tullamore casualty treated my elderly mother with profound dignity and respect. Despite all I have heard about the conditions they have to work within I found them courteous and professional beyond belief. They were so efficient, gentle and kind to her. They have such a tough job to do, but I must say they are the ultimate professionals. I don't have much cause to visit hospitals in general, I am so impressed with the people that I witnessed working there throughout my mothers stay.

I eventually got a bed on the medical ward on the ground floor, unfortunately had the misfortune of meeting some very rude unhappy staff nurses. Other staff were pleasant and the consultant was an absolute gentleman.

Triage nurse did not leave me waiting to be seen. Am unsure of the name of the person of the surgical team who actually took me seriously when I arrived into A&E, instead of being constantly fobbed off and mislead by the medical profession for years, he believed what I was saying and got me help.Mr Mulligan who with great kindness took great care of my treatment on several occasions. Most of the nursing staff were ok but some of them were a bit overbearing. The nurse I had looking after me was lovely and very helpful on my last visit.

Attended recently with a child for a procedure after a very long wait. Phoned children's ward on the morning to confirm bed about 10 times but phone rang out each time. Phoned main hospital number and asked to be put through, ward picked up straight away. On arrival spoke to another woman who had the same difficulty and had attended that morning without confirming a bed. All doctors I met were nice to deal with exception to the consultant. Catering staff on children's ward super friendly. Nurses on duty day one were very helpful and friendly. One nurse who was on the second day in my opinion should not be dealing with patients what so ever if she can be as rude as she was to a three and a half year old. All in all if I had to do it again I would go privately as the waiting time was very unfair but would make sure I attended another hospital because of that one nurse's very poor attitude.

Everyone I met from reception to the man wheeling me out the door were all very nice, cannot fault my stay one bit. Ms Niall is an excellent surgeon, done a brilliant job. I am very happy she carried out my operation.

The nursing staff on the ward were entirely invisible for the two days of my brother's hospitalisation during the period 1.30pm - 10pm. The entire lack of visibility, evidence of nursing care, support, advice or indeed anything else is particularly worrying given that my brother was transferred to this ward having spent two days in ICU including, 24 hours on a ventilator. Even the medical staff on his ward seemed entirely disengaged. They said he was fine for discharge, despite the fact that my sister could not rouse him as he was semi-comatose. Medical staff also seemed to know nothing of my brother's test results - and the nursing staff were not there to ask - appalling situation for an acutely ill patient and his family to be left in. If there was any option to bypass Tullamore Hospital and go elsewhere in a similar emergency, the family would do so.

I discharged myself from this hospital twice, both times because of the nurses. The first time I was left in severe pain from collapsed veins and infections and the second time because one of the nurses was stealing my pain medication and falsely accusing me of smoking in my room even though I don't smoke anymore! Most of the doctors are very nice but they tend to jump to the wrong conclusions which makes trusting them difficult. Now I have to try and find a hospital that doesn't discriminate against ex-smokers.

I was in Tullamore Hospital for almost 5 days but bed linens were not changed. I was on IV therapy and intravenous cannula was in my hand from 5pm on 24th November. The cannula was not changed for 5 days and was only removed during the time of my discharge on 28th November. Also, one day staff nurse signed the drug sheet that she had given me an antibiotic but she did not administer it to me. Upon asking after one hour of time elapsed after signing, she told me that she had been distracted and called to do another job.

Presented at Tullamore for child's plaster cast to be replaced as per A&E recommendation as child was complaining of pain. Waited over 90 minutes to be seen because I did not have a yellow slip of paper!
