Attending A&E and being treated as an inpatient for two weeks during a pandemic wasn't in my plans for 2020, but general emergencies do arise. Although I was concerned about catching Covid-19 during my stay, I found the hospital staff very conscientious about cleanliness and safety protocols. As no visitors were allowed, the friendliness of staff across the board really helped and the care received was second to none.

My stay in this hospital was so relaxing. Staff nurses, doctors, the ladies that bring your dinner, you can’t fault anything. Thank you so much.

Excellent care in Cherry ward, amazing nurses so kind. And not forgetting healthcare assistants and the ward clerk, who was a caring, kind lady.

I fractured my ankle in three places and had to go for surgery. I was very impressed with every step of the journey - the ambulance crew (who had to rescue me by boat), the emergency dept, the x-ray guys, the day ward the day of the operation, the anaesthetist who took special care of me due to a potential hereditary issue, the surgeons, the after care in the ward, the outpatients staff and particularly the ladies in the plaster room. A big thank you to all of the staff at Connolly Hospital.

My family got told on Thursday by a doctor over the phone that, because of the state that my grandmother was in, we would be allowed up to visit anytime, one every 15 minutes. Saturday my Auntie visited, no problem, Sunday, Dad went up only to be told by a nurse that he wasn't allowed and that no visitors were allowed. When he mentioned what the doctor had told him, he was told that the doctor was wrong. Today I went up to see if I could visit her and when I got there I was shocked by the lack of organisation at the door. Crowds of people had gathered around the front entrance, some with masks and gloves, others none. The same went for staff inside the hospital. I also saw no one using the hand sanitiser. Cleared all the paper work and got the okay from my temperature check by security. Was told I could go up. When I got to the ward, a nurse wearing only a mask and no gloves asked me was I okay for everything and I replied that I was. She must have been watching me, because the second room I looked in on for my grandmother, I had only put my foot in the door when I heard: 'excuse me!'. I turned around and the nurse was right behind me. She asked was I visiting anyone and I replied that I was. Her condescending tone quickly switched to an over-assertive one. 'Well you can't visit anyone today!'. 'It's only Wednesdays and Sundays!'. When I tried to explain what the doctor had told my family, she quickly cut across me telling me that she didn't care what the doctor said and that the doctor in question does not work today or tomorrow anyway. I told her that the communication issues within the hospital were not my problem, nor my family's. She tried to cut across me again to which I had to assert myself and tell her 'no'. I walked away from her, and she followed right behind me bellowing 'EXCUSE ME!' X3. To this I quickly turned around and told her I didn't care. To which she bellowed 'OKAY. I'LL CALL SECURITY THEN!'. I sat next to my grandmother for about 3 minutes when the same security man, who gave the okay for me to visit the ward, came up to us stating politely at first that I had to leave. When I told him he had just given me the okay, he quickly cut-across me and said 'that was a mistake'. I told him it was not my problem, to which he then asked me to leave. I could tell my Nana was feeling a little uncomfortable, as was I. So I said my goodbyes and walked out. The security man walking out right behind me. The nurse in question standing at the desk outside, leaning on it giving me a dirty look. This hostility was not needed here today by staff, nor did they need to escort me out of the ward area. Some nursing staff didn't even have masks, let alone gloves. I noticed a man in surgical wear walking in front of me on my way out, and he never used the hand sanitizer while leaving the ward area. I fear for my grandmother's health now in that hospital. Nana's pillows had pen stains on it and a tanned stain. My nan's hair was messy, and she had crumbs all down her front gown. When I came in she looked very lonely just sitting there looking out the window. Surely considering staff have time to pick fights, they could surely spend a bit of time talking to the elderly, making them feel less lonely, and looking less dishevelled.

I cannot reiterate just how unfit for purpose this hospital is. My file was lost three times on and before admission. The wards were packed and unclean, as was cutlery and dishes. There is a very apparent negative organisational culture towards patients of the hospital which I experienced from administrators, technicians and doctors. I had a test, which involved me being stripped from the waist up and feeling vulnerable and obviously worried about my health - I was barked at by an over-stressed technician who gave no instructions, answered calls during the test, and got irritated with me for 'breathing' when they had given me no instructions before or during the assessment. Patient care is non-existent. I have since had to pay for private assessments.

As hospitals go - and no one likes going to one - this is pretty good. It's so bright, clean and spacious. The food in the café is not bad, but the car parking facilities are a joke. Charging for A&E car parking is a crime in my opinion.

Big problems with hospital superbugs and the bed management policy stinks, which I believe contributes to the spread of infection.

Was sent by GP due to concern over a clot. I was admitted and released after change of opinion. I went back the next day for a scan but only had one part of my body scanned despite having problems in other places. I'm still in pain with no answers. Would not be keen to go there again, a dump.

Waited in A&E for seven hours. My partner was in severe pain, he saw a triage nurse 10 minutes after arrival. She asked what had happened but never bothered to look at his injuries for swelling etc. He had been trampled on by a herd of cows. We arrived at 11pm and at 5am he still had not been called to be seen by a doctor. I understand A&E can be busy and emergencies prioritised, but surely patients could be told that there is a delay.

I wish to commend Paul Breen, physiotherapist, Connolly Hospital for the excellent service he provided while I was under his care in physio for the past couple of months. He is the reason I am where I am today embarking on my long awaited journey to work and due to his hard work trying to help me fix what I broke. Despite the pain, it was a long but good road and he got me there. So I only have him to thank for that. He is so genuine, good humoured and made you feel comfortable and at ease. He is a top physiotherapist, one in a million, who could not be faulted in any way. Sometimes words fail, so ... Thank you Paul!

I feel that from the minute I entered A&E I was looked after and my needs were more than met. The place was spotless and the staff were incredible. The only criticism I have is that the only doctor who cleaned his hands was the head doctor, no other doctors or students cleaned their hands between examining each patient or leaving the ward. They could learn a thing or two from the nurses!

Arrived at A&E at 00.15am and was seen by an intern within 15 mins. My wife of 75 years was left on a chair for six hours. Bed given and test of blood and ECG taken at 7am. At 8 am was told we would be transferred to acute day ward to see a doctor. I think anyone who cannot be treated by A&E should be told so and put in another part of hospital until acute ward is open.

Horrible hospital. Making mistakes sending out appointments for a Saturday when no one is working. Then on day of appointment left waiting 4 hours in a small waiting room before the doctor turned up.

From the moment I hit A&E in June to my return 10 weeks later for my operation, I can't fault the care I got I was pleased to see the hospital has been improved and now do their own scans, MRIs and CTs. Still can't believe how ill I was to now being at home recovering from an operation. A very busy hospital with not a lot of privacy, but the care made up for this.

A&E Department. I arrived in by ambulance with a fractured shoulder. I was treated promptly and was well taken care of despite the department being clearly understaffed. The staff were excellent and provided the best care while being under immense pressure. I was in a lot of pain and needed to call nurses throughout the night but I always got the attention I needed despite the amount of patients and the lack of staff. I felt sorry for the nurses/doctors as they were clearly stressed and so busy. It's a disgrace that there isn't an adequate number of staff considering they are dealing with people's health. I would have no problem attending A&E again in this hospital. I also have had the best of care in the outpatients clinic and physiotherapy department since my injury.
