I feel that from the minute I entered A&E I was looked after and my needs were more than met. The place was spotless and the staff were incredible. The only criticism I have is that the only doctor who cleaned his hands was the head doctor, no other doctors or students cleaned their hands between examining each patient or leaving the ward. They could learn a thing or two from the nurses!

Arrived at A&E at 00.15am and was seen by an intern within 15 mins. My wife of 75 years was left on a chair for six hours. Bed given and test of blood and ECG taken at 7am. At 8 am was told we would be transferred to acute day ward to see a doctor. I think anyone who cannot be treated by A&E should be told so and put in another part of hospital until acute ward is open.

The nursing staff are under great pressure but they are giving 100%. My consultant was kind and thoughtful when explaining my MS condition to me.

Horrible hospital. Making mistakes sending out appointments for a Saturday when no one is working. Then on day of appointment left waiting 4 hours in a small waiting room before the doctor turned up.

From the moment I hit A&E in June to my return 10 weeks later for my operation, I can't fault the care I got I was pleased to see the hospital has been improved and now do their own scans, MRIs and CTs. Still can't believe how ill I was to now being at home recovering from an operation. A very busy hospital with not a lot of privacy, but the care made up for this.

A&E Department. I arrived in by ambulance with a fractured shoulder. I was treated promptly and was well taken care of despite the department being clearly understaffed. The staff were excellent and provided the best care while being under immense pressure. I was in a lot of pain and needed to call nurses throughout the night but I always got the attention I needed despite the amount of patients and the lack of staff. I felt sorry for the nurses/doctors as they were clearly stressed and so busy. It's a disgrace that there isn't an adequate number of staff considering they are dealing with people's health. I would have no problem attending A&E again in this hospital. I also have had the best of care in the outpatients clinic and physiotherapy department since my injury.

I was really impressed by the treatment I received from all the staff, from triage staff, doctors, nurses , consultants including hospital porters etc... I would have no hesitation going back for more treatment in this hospital.

My pain relief was inadequate and this was made out to be my fault, very unhappy.

The care I received in the ward was excellent. There were issues that I experienced in outpatients before and after the operation that compromised the diagnosis and treatment of my disease. I eventually needed to go to a centre of excellence to get specialised treatment. It was nearly too late.

My grandmother died five days after being admitted to hospital. She didn't know she had aggressive thyroid cancer. For that reason, I am upset with the doctors and GPs in our local area. However, the attention, dignity and care the hospital provided my Grandmother with made my heart soar. She was comfortable in her last days and for that I am truly grateful to the Laurel Ward Staff.

One doctor took the time to examine my mother and explain what was wrong and ensured her he would take her in as an outpatient to carry out tests to find out why she was in so much pain. He gave her hope as she has been in pain for six months and was sent home from A&E without further consultations - no way to treat a 78 year old lady. This doctor went beyond the point of care for my mother which I really appreciated. It hard to see your mum cry in pain every day and to be sent from one doctor to another.

My son was in the children's ward recently for a minor procedure and had to stay over night. From check-in at admissions to check-out in ward, he was treated very well. Staff were lovely especially Amy and Geraldine, every thing was explained to my son. Good facilities for parents who stay with their kids over night.

The main issue I have with the hospital is the inability to communicate with patients. After being told my minor surgery was free by my GP and the nurses in the hospital, I received a bill threatening me to pay within a 14-day period. The subsequent charge was not outlined on my appointment letter nor was I informed by anyone else about the charge. Please be aware of the hidden charges before you decide to go ahead with any procedures.

Very busy and under-staffed. No organisation in A&E. I was left untreated for four hours before being seen to, even though my condition and its severity was known.

It was an unbelievably busy couple of times when I was there but on each occassion, I was dealt with respect and also there is a such a nice calmness about the place. Generally people work with a smile on their face - not something you would expect in such a busy spot. The waiting list was unbelievably effectively managed, quite impressive. Also a note to the super liaison nurse that I overheard on a few occasions, she was so understanding with the older patients.

The nursing staff in the critical care unit were excellent. Regrettably their colleagues in other wards were not so. As my illness was neurological I was told there was no neurology unit in the hospital and was instead put under the care of an elderly unit. (I am 40). It did however give me a very scary insight into the way elderly people are treated in this hospital which was shameful.

A&E was hugely disorganised. There were people in beds with minor injuries which were cleared very easily once attention was drawn to this, and there was stage 4 cancer patients in wheelchairs for six hours. Patients spent 3 - 4 hours waiting to be discharged, this could have been done much faster and made space available for new/serious patients. Prioritisation of patients was very badly dealt with. I understand A&E depts are difficult places to work as I have spent a few days in them now. These depts really need an overall person to organise better and ensure serious/major injuries are handled while drunk/aggressive people don't take over the needed doctor time for serious/elderly patients. In the interest of full disclosure, my mother won't be needing A&E anymore, but sad to see she had to sit through this in the last weeks of her life.

Very poor quality of care - call bell routinely left out of reach, no water provided despite being told to drink plenty and I was asked to bring in bottled water for the patient. I was continually informed my father was blocking a bed despite him acquiring numerous hospital-acquired infections. I also found an inability to listen to and act on complaints.

I attended the A&E on a very busy Thursday and at all times I was extremely well looked after. The staff do a wonderful job in spite of cutbacks. All the staff we were in contact with were embarrassed at the lack of funding and what we the patients had to endure eg, 10-hour waits, sleeping in chairs, lack of privacy for consultations. To all the staff, a big thank you!
