I had 2 children at Mount Carmel. My first child I felt the midwife did not reassure or give confidence - I was right as she left me with life-long problems! On my second delivery I had a new experience of how it felt to be treated with dignity and respect and someone who made me feel at ease - she was excellent and the delivery was as it should have been without a problem. Unfortunately I feel I was not treated by a competent staff member for my first child and should have went on my instinct to ask for another nurse - now I live with a problem that should never have happened in this day.

Food was brilliant. Private room was gorgeous. View of the mountains. Flat screen tv. Nurses who came immediately when you pressed the buzzer. Nothing was too much trouble, including traipsing up and down to nursery for me several times a night to feed my baby my expressed breast milk while I got some much needed sleep. I'd a complicated pregnancy and they were on the ball. So sad Mt. Carmel is now closed.

I was very impressed by the standard of care from the midwives both in the delivery suite and post-partum. The help given for breastfeeding was excellent and the nurses in the special baby unit carefully and thoroughly explained what had happened to my baby. On the night my baby was born, the midwives were excellent.

I had two babies in Mount Carmel 2012 and 2013, first was private 2nd I went semi private, both experiences were fantastic. I had the same Ob/Gyn for both and found her to be wonderful and the midwives were exceptional. I would also like to mention that the sonographer was amazing. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Mount Carmel for their outstanding care. We had lost a baby abroad in 2005, I was extremely nervous when I got pregnant in 2012, but my confidence grew and positivity due to the care and attention I received while in their care!! Would go there again without a doubt!

For my last prenatal appointment I had a different doctor to who I had previously seen. That doctor refused to create a birth plan with me and was very brisk in general. I should have listened to my instinct and switched hospitals at that point - but the whole thing had already been paid for. The delivery was disappointing to say the least. When I was due to be admitted in the middle of the night the doors were locked with a sign saying "please use the side doors". No mention of where they were, left or right or behind. There was a porter there who saw me knocking on the doors, but he refused to open the doors until we called the midwife on the mobile. This was on one of the coldest nights of the year, and my waters broke a minute before the doors were opened so I was wet and freezing. By the time I got to the delivery room I was completely tense, and this was not helped by a midwife who insisted on coming with me to the toilet to get a urine sample, and wanted to do a vaginal check right after. Soon I was asking for an epidural, which they made no effort to discourage me from - anything to keep me quiet I think. When it came to the pushing stage the doctor showed up again, and made a complete mess of my stitches, even joking about it to the attending midwife. My experience didn't improve on the postnatal ward - none of the midwives had any time to help me establish breastfeeding. Sometimes took a while to come, and always rushed away. They also practically forced me to put my baby in the nursery with 10 other screaming newborns on the first night. No rooming in policy there. Again I felt that they just found it easier to take the babies into another room to scream, instead of helping a new mother to cope with her baby. The follow up appointments weren't great either, mainly long waits followed by short appointments. A complete waste of time and money. Never again.

The maternity care in Mount Carmel is excellent and I strongly recommend it. The hospital really gives you time to bond with your new baby and recover after giving birth. Used their shared care package and was really happy with it.

Hospital appeared to be staffed with part-time nurses. Nurse who looked after my father was only with him for two days then announced 'I am away now it was nice to meet you'. On the day of his discharge he was being discharged with dressings which had not been changed and with no follow up details. He had also contacted an infection and in fact several weeks later, it was discovered that his blood count was very low, a fact that was put down to the kidney infection he picked up in the hospital during which he lost a considerabe amount of blood. The hospital was also very cold with no heating on.

I attended this hospital's maternity department to have my second baby. What sets it apart from other maternity hospitals is the dignity and respect afforded to patients. From the moment you enter the hospital to the time you leave, all staff treated me with such good care and attention with patience and understanding. I really felt rested and well looked after going home. My family were welcomed by staff visiting me and I would gladly return to have another baby at Mount Carmel.

Mount Carmel looks a bit run down in places but the important things were excellent. Parking is expensive but thats not surprising. Very happy overall.

I would, without hesitation, recommend Mount Carmel as a maternity hospital. I have gone there twice for two pregnancies and each time my experience was excellent. The only slightly negative comment would be the parking is expensive.

The standard of cleanliness and hygiene in this hospital is very high. The surgical, medical and nursing staff I met were all courteous, professional and highly efficient. Thank you.

Have been for several outpatient appointments and found there to be a complete lack of any kind of system. I was constantly asked why I was there, what tests I was supposed to be having. Two appointments were rescheduled and I had to return a second time the same week due to a lack of communication between staff regarding tests. I am not finished with the service, so we live in hope that it improves!!

The only fault or something that leaves a little distaste from the experience is I was not aware that if your admitted before midnight to deliver you are charged an extra night in the hospital, which is not covered by your insurance. I was admitted after 2230 and feel it's a little unfair the billing practice and would expect the deliver charge should cover you in a delievery bed. But other than that very happy with my experience.

Mt. Carmel was like receiving 5 star hotel treatment. The cleanliness, standards, medical expertise, level of care, comfort of the rooms & amenities and the food were so nice, I almost didn't want to leave after we had our son there.

I don't think paying patients should have to pay for parking. Care excellent, nurses and consultants very kind and welcoming. Nurse responded instantly to the call bell. Recovery was in a 4 bed ward, I could hear doctors talking to the other patients and I'm sure the other patients could hear when I was speaking to doctor. Catering staff left curtain open which was embarrassing for me. Otherwise a good review.

My overall experience was a very positive one. Very high emphasis on cleanliness which was reassuring. Excellent nursing care and food excellent. Could not fault them on anything bar the restricted and costly parking for visitors

My son had entered the hospital fasting as had been requested. By the time came for him to be allowed to eat he was starving. The nurse said that she would organise some cereal for him. After waiting 20 minutes I went to ask was there any sign of the food only to be told we had to wait as the girl was gone on a break. I found this absloutely dreadful given the age of my child and the manner in which the staff spoke to me regarding the situation.

It was a great experience, though I do think Mt Carmel might benefit from adjusting some of its policies. I think it's silly that you can't carry your baby around the hospital - you have to wheel them around in those cots. I'm sure it's an insurance issue, but it's silly. Also - they have a policy that all births must be attended by an OB. My own consultant wasn't on that night, the guy on duty (I won't name him) was not really my cup of tea and I was just as happy that my daughter was born when he left building to check on his elderly mother!! I got the impression that he and my own consultant were really panicked that I'd be angry about this - I guess that's a pretty big screw up (he left when I was 9 cms dilated!). I was just as happy as it was a straightforward birth and I had two lovely midwives with me and the OB in question has a rep for a lousy bedside manner and enthusiasm for episiotomies. I think it would be fantastic if Mt. Carmel offered midwife led care.

Prof Hugh Mulcahy has the rare gift of putting the patient at ease and treating them as intelligent adults. His untiring patience in explaining symptoms, treatments and medication effects is astounding. He treats a patient as if that person is the only patient he must see on that day. Mary is a miracle in that she does so much over the phone in putting worries to bed, and in helping in every she can to make the patient feel that they are being cared for. She is a wonderful link to Prof Mulcahy, is always helpful and professional and friendly.

The only complaint was when I was first admitted to the ward, the dr who came to ask my history was not very personable, and not very good at putting you at ease. I really felt like I was a hindrance to her, or gI had with her, and everyone else was lovely, and made it their business to keep me relaxed and calm and comfortable

To all the doctors and nurses in Mount Carmel, from the moment I entered the hospital for day surgery I met nothing but kindness and care from everyone. Excellent hospital, highly recommended.
