I wish they would re-open the A&E, as it is needed in a big town like Dundalk.

I would just like to say that I was disgusted by the way I was treated by my doctor for mental health issues. I waited five months for a 5/10 minute meeting where I was told I wasn't depressed (I am) and there was nothing that could be done. I was told to come off the medication I was on and I was promptly dismissed from the mental health services. I left feeling worse than when I went to seek help in the first place.

Hi completing this on behalf of my Dad (RIP). Would like you to correct the information on your site. The Louth County Hospital is no longer an acute hospital. There are now only 42 inpatient beds since the HSE closed its acute services in July 2010. Monaghan General is in a similar position as I'm sure are other hospitals that you list on your site. The most recent comment about Louth County probably relates to Our Lady of Lourdes in Drogheda? Louth County does not have an ED only a minor injury unit. Neither does it have a medical assessment unit.

Need to go to A&E when referred by a GP is a complete waste of resources. The nurse did not read the doctor's notes . The Doctor referred me to the the Medical Investigation Unit but one cannot be accepted there except via A&E, which added 1.5 hours to end up in MU after all.

I was in the day ward recently having minor surgery on my back. The care I received from the lady in admissions to the nurse who took my details, the lady who wheeled me to theatre, the theatre staff and to the nurse Mary who kept me occupied while Mr Nasr was carrying out the procedure was excellent. Each person was so pleasant and explained what was happening to me. Not enough credit is given to our nurses and doctors and admin staff.

Given the stress and cutbacks that the staff face, their service was very professional and helpful. I felt very comfortable that my mother was being treated very well

This is an excellent hospital, staffed by a particularly dedicated and caring team. My mother in law has been admitted several times in recent years and the care she has received has been wonderful. However, the biggest problem that i have encountered on several occasiions is the complete lack of follow up after her discharge. The transition from hospital to home care is appalling and it seems the hospital have a directive to get patients off the ward with no liaison to ensure continuing care in the community. The ward sister actually said that once she had been discharged by her consultant that her care was a "community nursing issue" and not her problem. The fact that my mother in law has been re-admitted several times underlines the lack of cohesion between the various departments of the HSE who are ALL stakeholders in the care of the patient.

I would be happy to attend this hospital in the future. It would upset me to think it may be down graded in the near future.

This hospital should be either staffed properly or shut down. My treatment in A&E was disgraceful. On this issue I agree with Harney - close this dump down!

Compared to my visits to Our Lady's Hosital in Drogheda, to which I hope never to have to return to, KEEP THE LOUTH OPEN FOR EVER and ADD to all its facilities PLEASE.

My dad has been a patient in the LCH on many occasions over the last 8 years. He was recently admitted and diagnosed with cancer. The care and support that he and we as a family received was outstanding. He died peacefully at home and we will be for ever grateful to all the staff for their kindness at this time.

I felt the treatment of my elderly relative at this hospital was appalling, the treatment of myself and my family in trying to get information was also appalling. In the opinion of all my family "the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing" and everybody we spoke to gave different answers. We were left waiting 3 days expecting to see a Consultant and then we were told this consultant was on holiday and had been for 5 days but nobody knew this. The nurses and doctors were all smiles, until we asked the hard questions - then they got very defensive.

I think that the Louth hospital is very good and it is a disgrace that the authorities are trying to downgrade it. The Dundalk area is growing very quickly and needs more services, not less. The staff remain cheerful and kind under difficult circumstances and can only be praised for their dedication to their patients.

my uncle was under the care of Mr Power and his surgical team and received excellent attention. The nurses on the surgical ward, even though extremely busy always had time to answer queries and were always pleasant to patients and visitors alike.

With symptoms such as speech difficulties, numb limbs, co-ordination problems, headache etc....how can you send them home with "migraine attack"!! Especially when the patient is overweight and smokes about two packs of cigarettes per day! Even I would know it is a stroke!

Please, please will the HSE leave our hospital alone. We want to be treated in Dundalk, not to have to travel to Drogheda or Navan. We have an excellent hospital which is doing a great job considering the lack of resources and funding made available to it. Keep the services local.

My dad has been a patient in Louth County on numerous occasions over the last few years and has always been treated in a professional and caring manner by all the staff working there. It will be a disaster for the people of Dundalk if the hospital is "transformed " as the HSE intend. We need and want our hospital to continue with full services.

My father and my family were treated with care and compassion on the male medical ward when my father was dying and when he was in icu the nurses were excellent and so caring. At such a heartbreaking and distressing time i will never forgot them. My mother has also been a patient there on many occasions and they always nurse her back to health of which i am truly grateful. I just want to say thank you and keep up the good work. if this hospital is downgraded it will be a disgrace

Efficient and professional care given by nursing staff in a caring and humane manner. Staff are working under extreme pressure due to the lack of funding and poor staffing levels. Hse should rethink their current plans to close wards and downgrade the Louth. The people of Dundalk need and want this hospital to have full services

I witnessed an elderly heart attack patient and his wife being verbally abused by a doctor when the misfortunate man fell and hit his head against a radiator. I was kept in hospital three days longer than necessary because the nurse performing diagnostic tests would not cooperate with my doctor and consultant. The cleaners wiped the top of my locker with damp cloths and handled my water jug, glass, biscuits and minerals. The same cloth was used on other lockers before and after mile. Male public patients patients had to use the filthy public toilets to shave. The smell of urine was disgusting. Patients were kept awake until after midnight every night with 6 very noisy compressors which were used for ventilators. They used to have a piped air supply years ago. The noise exacerbater my headaces which were a side affect of my medication. The consultant and doctors discussed patients among themselves in loud voices in the middle of the ward, everybody heard everybody elses business.
